How to join the Elks

Becoming a Member – The Process.

The Order is a non-political, non-sectarian and strictly American fraternity with proposal for membership by invitation only of a member in good standing.  To be accepted as a member, one must be an American citizen, believe in God, be of good moral character and be at least 21 years old.

  1. You will need to obtain and fill out a Membership Inquiry Form from the Lodge and need a proposer and two other Elks as personal reference.  You will also need to include $25 with the application fee.

  2. Once completed, your application name will be read at a regular Lodge meeting and then forwarded to the Membership Committee.

  3. You will be called and required to meet with Membership Committee for an interview and must consent to a background check.

  4. Upon favorable approval after the interview process, there is a vote the following month during a Lodge meeting of the members present.  This is a private balloting process and favorable votes will be read as such afterward.

  5. Upon a favorable vote of the membership to join, you will be asked to present yourself and your spouse, if possible, for an informational meeting know as indoctrination or “indoc".  This is about 90 minutes long and held at the lodge on a single Wednesday evening each month.

  6. The following day, Thursday, is initiation night, where you will be introduced to the membership present on the Lodge floor during an official Lodge session.  This is required for your membership into the Lodge and is a special right of passage lasting approximately 2 hours.
